Hi, My gran Mrs Ann Main is the lady on the far right. I know the photograph was taken in the Lisburn area in the 1940’s. Can anyone tell me anymore about the other two workers and what exactly they were doing? Damian.
Flax supplies were vital to the war effort and increased production was encouraged by the government. My cousin Katherine Bell is the lady on the left and Agnes O’Kane is pictured in the centre of the photograph. The ladies are shown demonstrating the flax-pulling machinery at Patrick Gardiner’s farm, Ballantine townland, near the Hillsborough Old Road. All three lived in the local area in the 1940s. I hope this is of help. Jean Watson (nee Bell)
